Marketing Tips for Attracting Buyers for Your Products

by WHS_staff on July 4, 2009

The current state of the economy has an increasing number of people highly interested in learning to create and sell products on their own. There is no better way to make a living, if only because of the sense of fulfillment and satisfaction this will give you. However, this endeavor is easier said that done. It may seem like a cake walk, because you can set your own hours and manage yourself. However, the truth is that it requires a lot of hard work, determination, and dedication to be truly successful.

One thing that you have to keep in mind is that just because your products do not sell right away does not mean that people are not willing to buy them. Take things slowly, and make sure that your product gets some exposure.  After all, if people do not know that your product is out there, how will even buy it? You have to start out small and make sure that you think up of creative ways to advertise.

Creating your own products starts with a good idea that you want to develop. You don’t need to have a huge idea right away — in fact, your business can start with just a flicker of an idea to drive it. For example, the person who came up with ‘Bump It’ to volumize your hair is a genius, and many girls have bought and are using this product. Just think about something that you might want to use or need to use everyday and an idea should come to you in no time at all!

After you get an idea, the next step is to do research on it. You want to make sure that you find the ideal market for your product.  You also have to find out — even before you start the production of the product — if people want to buy it. You can do a poll online and figure out exactly if people will be interested in your product and be willing to pay for it.  This is easier to pull off if you are already a blogger who make money blogging, since that means that you already have a reader base whose opinions you can gather.

See if people would use your product, how much they would be willing to pay for it, if they would even consider buying it, and things of that nature. There has to be some niche, some market, some sort of demand for your product if you want to be successful.

You will also have to test your product. This will of course require some kind of prototype, or prototypes, depending on how many focus groups you want to hold. Still, before you ever try to market it, you will need to know exactly how your product works. You also need to know how much it will cost to make. That way, you can estimate how much profit you will be receiving in return.

Whenever you are dealing with a product that you want to sell, you need to promote it and make sure that you advertise. Advertising is going to be the most important thing in the world; after all, people will not be buying any products that they do not know about. The internet is a great way to advertise and make money online: just set up a website and use SEO and social bookmarking techniques to ensure that people are directed to your website.

However, the internet is not your only resource. Maybe you cannot afford commercials in the beginning, but what about an ad in the local newspaper? Even an ad in some national newspapers is possible. Plus, do not forget that you can create brochures and place ads in magazines as well.
